Two crimes have been separately reported to the police, but they find similarity in the continuing evil of domestic abuse. M Laxmi was married toYadgiri, but the couple were at constant loggerheads. Surprisingly, she once again trusted him when he came out on bail and sought her affections. The situation has repeated with a twist. Hyderabad to have first rock park September 02, 2013 18:51

Hyderabad's rocks are not as bad as they seem anymore. The city, which has many tourist destinations to its credit, will now have a Rock Park adding to its glamor. Hyderabad's first rock park is planned on ‘Fakruddin Gutta’ at Gachibowli. The location is right behind Lanco Hills, featuring huge rocks, boulder formations and naturally created caves. The rock formations are named after the 600 year old dargah of Baba Fakruddin Aulia present there. Society to Save Rocks secretary Frauke Quader was quoted by the Hindu as saying that the place is just ideal for bouldering as the rocks form natural caves. The government has reportedly agreed to the park after a long standing request from the society to protect the Deccan style ancient granite formations. Tourism Secretary Jayesh Ranjan futher noted that unless the heritage precincts are brought under adaptive reuse it is difficult to protect them, reported the newspaper. According to the Secretary,  the government would need just Rs 8 lakh to develop the rock park at Fakruddin Gutta. Facilities such as security, garden furniture, illumination, snack bar and toilets are on the cards. The Tourism Department and GHMC would share the park's development costs, estimated to finish within 6 months. Picture Courtesy: The Hindu, K Ramesh Babu (AW: Sruthi)

The city of Hyderabad is having to deal with a lot lately, what with the city being pulled apart in the bifurcation struggles. The last thing its residents need is educated youth becoming thieves. That's what happened to these five individuals, who ganged up to steal from others. We don't know what has prompted this call center employee and her accomplices to take up chain snatching professionally. But, once the police exposed their game, they realized their folly. Sana Khan, a 21 year old fashion design student, arrived from Mumbai and began staying a relative's house. She worked at the call center for money. Soon, love bloomed in her life with a neighbor, Shoeb Ahmed. She quit her job, got hitched and joined hands with three others, including two engineering students, to begin a spell of stealing. The thieves were nabbed by the city police on Friday, found guilty for at least 23 cases of chain snatching. Much like in a movie, the gang would split up and work on different areas, particularly Tirmulgherry. They were also caught in a filmy chase after their tried to abandon their car at the Old Bowenpally check-post and run away. According to the Commissioner, 3 gold chains, half a kilogram of ganja and an electronic weighing machine were found in their car. Everyday, he used to walk across from his shoe repair spot to a wine shop in SR Nagar, as soon as he earns enough to buy some alcohol. Secret CCTV cameras in the Shanti Bagh apartment building, the footpath of which is Ashok's 'office' revealed that he is a chronic alcoholic and that he frequented the wine shop. Sadly, the cameras could not catch the murder footage as their range is not that far. The man is a 62 year old cobbler survived by a wife and two sons in Nizamabad. Including 250 others, police continuously interrogated the Solanki brothers. The businessmen Varun Solanki and Arun Solanki brothers are linked to the murder for carrying a .32 pistol that killed the cobbler. However, police are yet to find hard evidence and a solid motive for the occurrence. Not much has progressed in the investigation as the old man had no obvious enemies. Hyderabad police in Telangana - Center tug o' war August 21, 2013 18:39

If the Telangana politicians have their way, Hyderabad and its police would be under the control of the new state. However, the Centre has decided to keep the Hyderabad police under its control, provoking TJAC, TRS and MIM leaders to vent out their opinions. Following the Antony Committee meeting, it was decided that Congress politicians have made peace with the government's decision to make Hyderabad a joint capital for 10 years with the Hyderabad police under the center's control. In contrast to the agreement, several pro-Telangana leaders have commented that they want the capital for themselves, complete with its police force. MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi expressed that Hyderabad should be capital of Telangana and police under its control as the state bifurcation decision is final. Meanwhile TJAC chairman Kodandaram also commented on similar lines, saying the Nawab city and its police should be under Talangana control. TRS president KCR is thinking one step ahead and has been calling for a 'Hamara Hyderabad' campaign after several meetings. He too wants the new state to have the city and its police. All this fuss is being kicked up after the Telangana Congress ministers agreed to the Center's decision over the fate of Hyderabad. (AW: Sruthi)

Eamcet counseling faces the consequence August 19, 2013 16:55

Hyderabad will be the prime target for those hoping to get a seat in good colleges. Students may arrive in droves from Seemandhra too in light of the ongoing protests affecting regular life in Andhra and Rayalaseema. Protests against the Center's decision to Bifurcate Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and Seemandhra have kicked up a lot of dust, obscuring daily life. Students will not have Eamcet counseling in Seemandhra, as government employees themselves are unavailable for the process. The counseling was scheduled to start on Monday. However, Seemandhra government employees’ JAC are protesting the bifurcation with a boycott. The government may opt for web based counseling, but it is still a tricky detour. Seemandhra has 34 counselling centres and Telangana has 22. Though the government is against postponing Eamcet counselling, Seemandhra protestors feel the students may be at a loss if the bifurcation happens. (AW: Sruthi)

Water thieves cannot escape anymore August 16, 2013 18:21

Authorities have decided to crack down on water thieves in Hyderabad amid scarcity. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has begun taking in criminal cases and complaints. Those complaining against an illegal water connection must carry a picture of the connection. The managers will then disconnect the supplies, armed with the proof. Property owners indulging in water thieving, better watch out. The station house officer (SHO) will register a case under Section 52 of the HMWS&SB Act 1989, and Section 430 of the IPC and Section 3 (2) (a) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984 against those having illegal water connection, reported Times of India. Meanwhile, many parts in the city may not have optimal water supply as the rains have failed to increase the water levels at Osmansagar and Himayatsagar. The lakes remained almost dry and this has posed problems regarding drawing water from them. Nearly 50 localities across Hyderabad are predicted to face a shortage of water supply. (AW: Sruthi)

Hyderabad roads resemble surface of the moon August 14, 2013 17:44

Hyderabadi commuters have no one to vent their frustration on. Roads across the city have been dug up, abused and left for repair, allowing the relentless rains to wreck havoc on what is left. The city's roads now resemble the surface of the moon, full of craters and pot holes. Still, we use the roads, breathing fire over the dangerous roads and feeling sorry for our hapless vehicles. Still, we carry on with our travels from one end of the city to other, having no one to complain to. Government organizations have royally failed to honor their responsibilities, leaving residents to suffer how they may. First began the Krishna water project, which involved laying water pipelines. Then came the road widening and Metro Rail work. The clash between both and the eventual work again damaged the roads, with absolutely no one bothered about setting the bad roads right. Let us not even begin to talk about the rains. Rains in the city are more a cause for sadness than excitement. (AW: Sruthi)
