Vijay Mallya's Extradition yet to come into effect:- Liquor baron Vijay Mallya has been absconding from the country and he owes more than Rs 9000 crores for the Indian banks. The Ministry of External Affairs submitted before the Supreme Court that the order extradition process is yet to come into effect that was ordered by the top court of the United Kingdom. The Centre said that there are some secret proceedings going on in the United Kingdom and this might have delayed the process of extradition.

Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General appeared for the ministry before the Supreme Court and he said that the government is not aware of the proceedings. He mentioned that the extradition of Vijay Mallya to India has been cleared in the Supreme Court of UK long ago. The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice UU Lalit asked about Vijay Mallya's extradition and about what is holding him back. The Centre told that they are not aware of the nature of proceedings of the extradition of Vijay Mallya. His lawyer was unable to state about when the legal extradition proceedings will end in the United Kingdom.

The Supreme Court dismissed a plea that was filed by Vijay Mallya who sought a review of the May 2017 order. The banks accused Vijay Mallya of concealing the facts by diverting the money to his children Siddharth Mallya, Leanna Mallya and Tanya Mallya.
