Walk in a park to increase memory skills

Walking is most essential to keep fit, say fitness geeks. And true to their word, morning walks has an immense positive effect on your mindset while toning your body. However anytime walking in a dense park has incredible effect on one’s memory skills, say researchers. It is normally advised to go for a walk when you are in the thick of a heated argument to refresh and back we try to fare well. 

Marc Berman, post-doctoral fellow at Baycrest`s Rotman Research Institute, working with Michigan and Stanford Universities, said: "Our study showed that participants with clinical depression demonstrated improved memory performance after a walk in nature, compared to a walk in a busy urban environment."

Berman`s research is part of a cognitive science field known as Attention Restoration Theory (ART) which proposes that people concentrate better after spending time in nature or looking at scenes of nature, according to Baycrest statement. However the researcher also states that the walk is not a compensation for treatment. They recruited individuals from the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor area with a history of clinical depression. Participants exhibited a 16 percent increase in attention and working memory after the nature walk relative to the urban walk.

Walking in nature away from this concrete jungle will definitely prove effective as there are no traces visible for us to ponder over. The serene greenery generally boosts one’s memory in the healthy, noted the professor in his earlier researches. Environmentalists claim that the walk in the park atleast keeps you away from pollution and walking in early hours also gives you the needed fresh intakes of Oxygen.
