Sonia's visit doesn't stop rapes

After the state was plagued by lust driven criminals who mercilessly outraged the modesty of several women in the state, Sonia Gandhi recently visited the state of Haryana. Only a day after she had returned to Delhi, another Dalit girl was raped in Kaithal district of Haryana. Two members who were accused of the rape were arrested in the case.

In the past month there were over 14 rapes in the State, being ruled by the Congress and most of the victims were Dalits. This raises eye on the government which is paying no heed to the plight of the Dalits.

In her recent visit, Sonia has spoken to the family of the girl who has committed suicide after being gang-raped. She also assured the family that justice would be meted out to her family. Raising her voice on the crimes, she said, "I criticise in the strongest terms these kind of incidents. The guilty should get the severest punishment."

The number and the frequency of the crimes in the state are at a worrisome high. On Tuesday, the Haryana Congress chose to call the rapes a "conspiracy to malign the government." Phool Chand Mulana, the Congress head in Haryana, called the slew of upsurge of rapes in the state "a political conspiracy."
