Official: KCR selects 2 candidates for Rajya Sabha

On Thursday, Telangana Chief Minister KCR has nominated government adviser D. Srinivas and former minister Capt. V. Laxmikantha Rao (retd) for the two Rajya Sabha seats from the state.

It is known that, Srinivas, the ex-Congress state president has joined TRS last year under high political drama and was given the post of the party’s adviser for inter-state affairs with Cabinet rank.

Capt. Rao (retd) on the other hand, was the TRS nominee in united Andhra Pradesh ex-Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s Cabinet during 2014-15 and is also a close relative of late Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and the younger brother of former Congress MP, late Voditela Rajeswara Rao.

He even has a good bonding with KCR, who often meet and discuss in private, trusting each other.

If the current strength of MLAs is taken into consideration, the first Rajya Sabha biennial elections from Telangana, after the state formation, will be unanimous, with the announcement of the TRS 2 candidates.

TRS, out of 119 legislators, has 82 MLAs as the official strength, besides 7 Congress MLAs, who have joined the party. Currently, Dr K. Kesava Rao is the only Rajya Sabha member of TRS.

According to the sources, close relative of KCR, Divikonda Damodar Rao’s name was also considered in the beginning, but was rejected as he is a BC leader.
