Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat in Delhi was filled with VIPs on the eve of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. Right from President Pranab Mukherjee to the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi paid tributes to Mahatma. Some hymns, which were close to Gandhi's heart including Raghupati Raghava Rajaram Patitha Pava Seetharam, were played at the function. BJP senior leader L K Advani and other minister such as AK Antony and Shiela Dikshit were also present at the elite gathering.

Gandhi Jayanthi has been celebrated not just in the national capital territory but across the country. It is known that Gandhi was one of the prominent leaders of Indian Freedom Struggle, who played a pivotal role in chasing the British out of the country through non-violence. He not only advocated non-violence but fought several social evils in the society including injustice to women and apartheid.

On his 143rd birth anniversary, let us all take an oath that we shall abide by the principles and philosophies of Mahatma.
