Electricity bills shock public

The government is all set to burden the public for another couple of years with electricity charges. The state, which had already increased power supply charges for the last few years has made it clear that it would continue to increase its charges. The State Government has stated that it would earn another 34,741 rupees from increasing current charges. These were the statements included in the report that would soon be sent to the ministry of power.  The confidential reports that were ready to be forwarded to the ministry were leaked to a vernacular newspaper in the state.

Congress’ electoral promises on electricity go vain:

The former chief minister late Y S Rajashekara Reddy in 2009 said the government didn’t raise the electricity charges for the past five years and it won’t increase in the next five years. All the promises made by YSR were broken by the Congress party after his death. In 2012-13, Kiran Government burdened the public with 4,500 crore rupees by increasing power rates. Meanwhile, new charges came into effect from April 1 and now electricity bills are coming as shocks to common men.

The Congress government, which came into the power with the slogan ‘aam aadmi’ seems to have made aam aadmi’s life more miserable by increasing not just electricity prices but even the prices of essential commodities. (Phani)
