AP electricity charges hiked

The new power tariff for the year 2016-17 will be effective from today.

Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) released the power tariff for the year 2016-17. All the residential customers are exempted from the power tariffs hike, whereas 2 percent hike is announced for the non-residents.

Speaking to the media, APERC Chairman Bhavani prasad said that, initially, the hike in power tariff is proposed as Rs .783 crores. But, finally it is limited to Rs. 216 crores.

Along with the residents, even agriculture, industries dependent on agriculture, NTR Sujala scheme, religion related institutions too, would not witness any hike in their electricity tariff and would continue with the same old tariff, APERC specified.

Industries and other commercial electricity consumers will see a hike of 2 % if their consumed units cross 100. Fish lakes, dairy farms and few such small businesses will witness a lesser responsibility on electricity tariff.

Based on the utilization of electricity, the officials have arranged three categories. The consumers who use 900 units will come under Group ‘A’ and from 901 units to 2400 units under Group ‘B’ and the consumers who use the electricity over  2400 units, will come under Group ‘C’.

For all the above mentioned three groups, the electricity tariff will be increased for every 100 units.
