Sonia gives up her hands on Telangana

Sonia gives up her hands on Telangana There seems to be no immediate solution emerging from the congress high command or the Centre as party president Sonia Gandhi has reportedly expressed her inability to take a decision on her own on the lingering issue of Telangana.

“How can I independently take a decision on such a complex problem,” was the reported reaction of Sonia when the members of the party core committee requested her to take an immediate decision on the Telangana issue during their committee meeting last Saturday.

Chidambaram, who spoke at length in the last core committee meeting, was said to have pointed out the complex nature of the issue. “We should have implemented the December 9 statement. The issue has become more complex now after we backtracked,” he reportedly pointed out saying it is very difficult to take a firm decision now.

The core committee has also thought of offering a package of Rs.35,000 Cr to the Telangana area with the formation of Telangana Regional Board but it could not take a decision on this also. The high command is of the view that the state can be divided in case the implementation of the regional package fails in a period of 2 years.

Meanwhile, the congress leaders of the Telangana area are preparing for a showdown with the congress high command by threatening to launch indefinite fast from July 5 if no decision is announced by June 30. They are also ready to submit their resignations to the presiding officers of the Lok Sabha, assembly and the council simultaneously while launching the fasting protest.
