Steps to improve quality of science education: NCERT

The government is considering a proposal to start vocational courses from school to graduate level. The Human Resource Development Ministry is processing the National Vocational Qualification Framework, to set common principles for imparting vocational education in the country.

Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Dr. D. Purandeswari, said in Lok Sabha that NCERT has undertaken a number of steps to improve quality of science education of school level namely development of activity based textbooks, laboratory manuals, exemplar problems, science kits, source books on assessment etc. NCERT has also been organizing several teacher training programmes on the use of these materials. The CBSE affiliated schools are insisted upon to provide facilities of well-equipped science laboratories for conduct of practical work in the schools, apart from appointment of qualified teachers for teaching the science subject. In addition enrichment activities like science Olympiad and science Exhibitions are conducted to make teaching/learning of Science subjects more interesting and enjoyable.

The government is considering a proposal to start vocational courses from school to graduate level. The Human Resource Development Ministry is processing the National Vocational Qualification Framework, to set common principles for imparting vocational education in the country.  The scheme will cover schools and vocational education training institutes. Institutions of higher education will also come under its purview. The scheme will be implemented after Cabinet approval. She said there have been extensive consultations with the States in formulating the proposed vocational education pattern. The States have been urged to identify courses specific to their needs to be covered under the scheme, she said(NSSNS)
