Breast cancer awareness rally on Gandhi Jayanti, in Hyderabad

Breast cancer awareness rally on Gandhi Jayanti in HyderabadTo enlighten the spreading menace to womanhood in the form of breast cancer, the city had gathered at KBR Park at Hyderabad on Sunday for a walk on awareness.

Speaking on the occasion, the event organizer Dr. Raghuram said the main aim was to highlight the pros and con of the disease. One such unique initiative is the pink ribbon walk, which is in the third successful year where close to 2000 people have participated and made this a success. The aims of the walk are essentially three folds. He also added firstly to emphasize that early detection save lives, secondly to salute survivors and conquerors in their fight against breast cancer, thirdly to demonstrate this exercise is very important and keeping away lifestyle diseases and cancer being no exception.

The renowned sports personalities who participated in the event were Pullela Gopi Chand and Jwala Gutta. Gutta said it was very important to educate people, especially women against this disease in our country.

It was indeed a unique and fantastic opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of regular exercise and an active lifestyle in reducing the risk of breast cancer - the number one killer of women in urban India. It was also an occasion to honor the women & applaud their strength in flight against breast cancer. In India the rate of detection is so low that the majority of women who have breast cancer aren't diagnosed until such a late stage that it is usually terminal. In Western countries it's easy for women to talk about their health. In India, because of the conservative culture, it's more difficult for women to discuss health problems with their doctors.
