Negative Emotions and Bad Mood Make on More Distrustful October 28, 2019 16:42

Negative Emotions and Bad Mood Make on More Distrustful:- A study says that negative emotions along with a bad mood make a person more distrustful. Negative emotions will sure reduce the trust one has in others and this has a huge impact on their daily routine. These even bring out a bad mood and lead to have nothing with the decision to trust. These negative emotions will have a huge influence on the behavior and the way we interact with others. Most of them can even lead to heated arguments. Researchers call these types of emotions "incidental" as they are triggered by the events that are unrelated. In the study, a team of researchers investigated how this can influence the trust behavior among the people. To induce a prolonged state of negative effect, the team used the well-established threat-of-shock method. The participants are asked to play a trust game about the money to be invested in a stranger. It was found that the participants trusted less. The brain response of the participants too has been recorded through functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Temporoparietal Junction (TPJ) was widely implicated due to this. Over 90% Of World's Children Open To Toxic Air, Says WHO November 01, 2018 12:45

Over 90% Of World's Children Open To Toxic Air, Says WHO:- Day-after-day around 93 percent of the world's children under the age of 15 (1.8 billion children) breathe contaminated air that puts their health and growth at serious risk, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in a new report that puts into numbers the annihilating impact that air pollution is having on the global population's health. According to WHO's report, tragically, many of these children die, with as many as six lakh estimated to have perished in 2016 alone due to complications from acute lower respiratory infections caused by dirty air. The report on air pollution and child health released on the eve of the WHO's first-ever global conference on Air Pollution and Health on Tuesday unveils that when expectant women are open to the polluted air, they are more probable to give birth prematurely, and have small, low birth-weight children. Air pollution as well as impacts neurodevelopment and cognitive ability and can trigger asthma, and childhood cancer. Children unprotected to high levels of air pollution may be at greater risk for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease later in life, the WHO said. "Polluted air is poisoning millions of children and ruining their lives," said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. "This is inexcusable. Every child should be able to breathe clean air so they can grow and fulfill their full potential." One reason why children are in particular vulnerable to the effects of air pollution is that they breathe more rapidly than adults and so absorb more pollutants. They also live close to the ground, where some pollutants reach peak concentrations - at a time when their brains and bodies are still developing. Additionally, newborns and small children are frequently at home. If the family is burning fuels like wood and kerosene for cooking, heating, and lighting, they would be exposed to higher levels of pollution. "Air pollution is stunting our children's brains, affecting their health in more ways than we suspected," Dr. Maria Neira, director, Department of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health at WHO, said in a release accompanying the report. "WHO is supporting the implementation of health-wise policy measures like accelerating the switch to clean cooking and heating fuels and technologies, promoting the use of cleaner transport, energy-efficient housing and urban planning. We are preparing the ground for low emission power generation, cleaner, safer industrial technologies, and better municipal waste management," Dr. Neira added.

In search of a Brahmastan, a place to live safe, secure and healthy June 26, 2015 16:48

Brahmastan is a principle of Vedic architecture and community planning that designates the center point of a geographical area. Vedic architecture is based on Vastu Shastra. Brahmasthan has to be free from any obstructions and is often to be well lit from above, by skylights for instance. Now that the explosion of expansion rather than the growth of the cities has given little regard to planning, natural laws and foresight. The loss of open spaces and greenery is detrimental to our physical and mental health. The smart cities will never truly be smart unless this environmental imperative is incorporated into their plans.Children brought up in green spaces (at home, school and commuting) were found to have better attention, memory and overall development, according to a recent paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.A Japanese longitudinal study in 2002 in the megapolis of Tokyo found that living in a greenery-filled neighbourhood that allowed easy walking was correlated with lower mortality risks.“The relation was generally present at all degrees of urbanity,” said a 2006 study in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. “The overall relation is somewhat stronger for lower socioeconomic groups. Elderly, youth, and secondary educated people in large cities seem to benefit more from presence of green areas in their living environment than other groups in large cities,” it said.In Bengaluru, each person had 1.73sq. m of open space in 2007, with more than 70% of the population having access to no more than 1sq. m, according to an Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore thesis by D.S. Ravindran, an Indian Forest Service officer. The international norm is of 11sq. m per person and developed countries tend to have 20sq. m per person. In this context a valuable question arises. Are Indian cities doomed to be dull, grey, hot and angry, congested concrete heat islands, inhabited by people on the edge of their tempers and resilience, with children destined to never fulfil their potential?A great open space is envisaged at the center point of a geographical area, its heart, the Brahmasthan, or residence of Brahma, is inspired by divinity. Brahmastan, an open space with lush greenery can make the lives of that area more humane and healthy. Congested surrounding are the reason of unrest and unhealthy.Samar Halarnkar editor of IndiaSpend.org, a data-driven, public-interest journalism, non-profit organization, who also writes the column Our Daily Bread in Mint Lounge has raised the most important question in his article, “The search for Brahmasthan” published in livemint.com, regarding the importance of environmental equilibrium for not only human beings but also for all the living beings..By Premji
