War of words between daughters of leaders November 28, 2012 12:14

War of words began between daughters of two political leaders. Wonder who they are? Well, one is Sharmila (daughter of YSR) and the other one being Kavitha (daughter of KCR). Sharmila last night took on TRS chief K Chandrashekara Rao. She questioned whether KCR would catch their legs in case they (Sharmila and Jagan) prove that they had no share in Obulapuram and Bayyaram mines. Kavitha today came down heavily on those statements. She gave a counter challenged and asked whether Sharmila was ready for a discussion on irregularities by late YSR. Further, she even said she was ready anytime to throw light on the ill doings by the late chief minister. Kavitha stressed that it would be then evident whether KCR would catch Sharmila's legs or people of Telangana would throttle the latter's throat. Also, Kavitha demanded that Jagan should be shifted to a prison in Andhra. Didn't YSR and Jagan betray Telangana, questioned Kavitha. She said in case allegations are levelled against someone, one should prove it but not attack personally. (AW Phani)

Metro rail first service in 2014 November 21, 2012 12:32

With metro rail works going in full swing, many people in Hyderabad are looking forward to moving on metro trains. Regarding, the same there has been buzz on social networking websites and at bus stops. To all those with an obvious question as to when metro rail doors would be thrown open for public, we give you the exact information. The first service of metro rail would be between Nagole and Mettuguda. This route will be a part of third line service, which will be between Raidurg and Nagole. The distance between Nagole and Mettuguda would be roughly around eight kilometres. And in buses, it usually takes around less than 20  minutes to commute from Nagole to the said destination in normal hours while in peak hours it might take up to an hour.     Nagole-Mettugua service would be open in another two years from now. Yes, the schedule time to start this service is December. However, it might be extended depending on the situation and the safety check ups. So, the news might be a little disappointing to those who were eagerly waiting for the first service of metro rail. Also, if the first service's final destination is Mettuguda, it might not serve purpose to the people-who most of them travel to Hitec City or Secunderabad from Nagole. To those who travel to Hitec City, Patny stop had been ideal one from where they were getting private cabs or buses to their destination. And those who want to go to Secunderabad station might still find it tough to again catch an auto rickshaw or bus from Mettuguda.     One has to wait and see whether RTC will operate special buses from Mettuguda to Hitech City after the metro service starts. If yes, then metro rail's first service would receive a thumbs up. (AW Phani)

One-way on trial basis at Koti, Secunderabad November 16, 2012 17:31

In a bid to streamline traffic at Koti junction and Secunderabad Railway Station, the traffic police are planning to implement one-way traffic systems at both these places. However, owing to the infrastructural bottlenecks, authorities are planning to implement the plans on a trial basis to study the effects of one-ways. A blueprint for one-way at Secunderabad Railway Station is ready, but the existing road congestion might create problems as St. John junction, Clock Tower junction, Secunderabad Railway Station and road near Gurudwara already have heavy traffic, Additional CP (Traffic) C.V. Anand said. "We are looking for viable alternatives and will impose one-way, at both Secunderabad and Koti, on a trial basis soon," he said. Authorities also have doubts regarding the one-way initiative at Koti junction. They were sceptical about the strength of the causeway between Kachiguda and Chaderghat to sustain increased traffic volume. "Imposing one-way traffic is a better way to decongest crowded junctions and roads in the city. However, we are still weighing the feasibility of these plans here," Mr. Anand said. The traffic police is also engaging public over these issues. They have asked people to give their opinion on their Facebook page and got some valuable tips too. While some welcomed the initiatives, others pointed out the practical difficulties and suggested alternative plans. Majority of the people said the congestion at Secunderabad Railway Station is mainly due to the presence of petty vendors and pedestrians and providing an alternative for them would decongest the roads. Other suggestions included drastic steps like shifting the Midhani, Dilsukhnagar and Uppal bus stops towards the Bhoiguda entrance of the Secunderabad Railway Station.

Petrol cheaper by a rupee from tomorrow November 15, 2012 20:48

Though the recent regulation would not help you save big bucks when you go for a fuel refill, the announcement that petrol would be sold at least 95 paise cheaper from tomorrow is always pleasant to the ears. The 95 paise cut in the price applies to Delhi while other cities would have similar slash in the petrol prices to bring merry shortly after Diwali. Petrol would cost Rs 67.24 from tomorrow after the 95 paise slash from midnight. The Mumbaikars have a Rs 1.20 reduction bringing down their petrol prices to Rs 73.53, Chennai Rs 70.57. The Rs 1.19 drop in price of petrol at Kolkata pegs the price at Rs 71.77 starting tomorrow morning. The variation in the prices reflects the differential VAT or sales tax as applicable. This is the second regulation since the 56 paisa cut per liter on October 9 following which there was a hike of 29 paise soon after. The latest reduction is due to the reduced global gasoline prices, which were termed relatively stable by the Indian Oil Corp, the number one fuel retailer in India. The price in Hyderabad and Bangalore would be reduced by a rupee to Rs 73.98 per liter and Rs 74.47 respectively. (AW- Anil)

After Azad, it's Rahul's turn November 15, 2012 14:54

In the wake of MIM withdrawing its support to the governments at the centre and the state, leaders at the national level are reportedly shifting their on pleasing MIM failing which the party might be facing a tough time from Muslim communities especially ahead of elections in Gujarat. Notably, general secretary of AICC, Rahul Gandhi reportedly telephoned MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi and asked him to reconsider his decision. But it looks like Asaduddin already made up the mind and the question of withdrawing the resignation might not arise, said observers. It may be noted that Asaduddin Owaisi already said Jagan was his new friend. Since Jaganmohan Reddy is a rival of Congress party, Congress is worried that MIM might join hands with YSR Congress party in 2014 election. In case something like that happens, it will be a cakewalk for YSRC to sweep assembly elections and it might even grow as a national party in future. One has to wait and watch as to how Congress would please MIM. (AW Phani)
