While going into the core of the reality, over a dozen petitions have been filed by environmentalists before the Andhra Pradesh High Court in connection with protection of the lakes in Hyderabad Metropolitan Area.

Furthermore, the High Court itself has taken a suo moto case with regard to saving Durgam Cheruvu Lake and Ramanthapur Lake. While the HC had directed the HMDA to place its time-bound action plan to fence the identified major lakes facing threat, on a priority basis.

The court had endure all further construction activity in the buffer zone of the lakes following which the civic body claimed that they would take up fencing soon around the lakes where Full Tank Level is already marked.

In fact, environmentalists declared that the revenue department and private builders work hand in glove and permit construction without a proper technical reference to the  main water spread.

Environmentalist and professor K.L Vyas of Osmania University said, that the HMDA lake protection committee has no power to prevent the illegal structures within the prohibited zone and it is just a committee on paper with no powers to initiate action. While taking into account the protection of Hussain Sagar, Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar, the HC indicated that it will appoint an expert committee to monitor and suggest measures for protection of the lakes.

It's really disgraceful that there are so much of ups and downs just for the sake of preserving our own heritage resources.
