Aftermath of Akbaruddin's arrest, sent to 14-day judicial custody

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi was arrested at the Gandhi Hospital after medical authorities cleared that the Chandrayangutta MLA was fit for questioning on health grounds, on Tuesday.

Nirmal Police have arrested the leader for a case filed for his 'hate speech' while addressing a small gathering in the town, recently. Section 144 had been imposed in Nirmal owing to local unrest. On Wednesday (January 09), he was remanded to 14 day judicial custody by a magistrate in Nirmal town

In the aftermath of his arrests there were some stray incidents of protest. Security has been beefed up in the old city area of Hyderabad and even CRPF personnel brought from other parts have been posted around Charminar.

A one day bandh has been called on Wednesday, in Adilabad district by MIM leader Jabir Ahmed. He urged all the sections of the society to participate in the bandh. In the meantime police have registered cases on the arrested leader under sections 120 (B), 124 (A), 295 (A), 505 and 188.

It may be noted, an alleged online video wherein Akbaruddin, who represents Chandrayangutta Assembly seat, was seen using inflammatory and derogatory words against a particular community, while addressing a public meeting (MIM Jalsa) at Nirmal town of Adilabad district, had been the reason.(Wishesh AarKay)
