Trying for consensus on T issue: PC

Trying for consensus on T issue PC Facing the onslaught of resignations by the MLAs of both the congress and TDP camps of the T region in AP seeking the formation of Telangana state,  Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram clarified today the Centre has not taken any decision on Telangana issue till date.

Chidambaram said that the government has not decided on the issue of Telangana as yet and is trying to arrive at a consensus on it. “We will convene an all party meeting on the issue after the two main parties express their views,” he told media persons in Delhi.

When reporters referred to his December 9, 2009 statement on the formation of the Telangana, he said he made the statement on behalf of the Centre. “It is not my personal statement,” he clarified.

He however hastened to add that didn’t mean that other parties should not be consulted and other issues not taken into consideration. The Minister asked the media not to look at the December 9, 2009 statement individually but take a look together at both the statements of December 9, 2009 and December 23,2009.
