The effect of fear

Fear is the most debilitating trait of an individual’s character. It makes for cowardice while fearlessness breeds courage and boldness. All strength is drained off the moment an impulse of fear haunts us. Fear and weakness go together. Evil is very much associated with fear. Shun fear, save the fear of doing evil and the fear of God, if you want to lead a healthy and happy life. If some people are bold enough to tread the path of evil, why do you fear to tread the path of righteousness? By ingenious intrigues an evil person may have a temporary victory over the good, permanent victory always goes to the righteous. Truth alone triumphs. If you are full of fear, your opponent will be emboldened and cow you down. All opposition is blown away once fearlessness is installed at it's rightful place. Fear lowers the personality of an individual. A man with fear can never hold his head high. A nation is composed of individuals, hence fear lowers the nation.

Tagore prayed to make his country a nation where mind is without fear and head is always held high. Fear lowers the morale and discourages adventures. A man with fear can never acquire greatness; he can never contribute something distinctive to the society and the nation and the world. Fear leaves a permanent unhealthy cancerous mark on the physiological and psychological build-up of an individual. Such a person is no good even to his own family, let alone the country to which he belongs. He transmits his trait of fear to his coming generations by heredity and his persistent contacts. Little wonder that he children of a man who is haunted by fears of various kinds get affected by this negative trait. The whole family gets fear infection which only an antibiotic of persistent spiritual motivation can cure. It is rightly said that fear and freedom never exist together.

Freedom is the quality of a  fearless mind. History is witness to the fact that nations lost their freedom only when their people were swayed by fear. Once this fear was shaken off, freedom returned to them. The whole history of colonialism and imperialism and anti-colonialism is a living testimony before us.

It's now left to us whether to choose happiness or sorrow!
