Sonia Gandhi visits relief camps in Assam

UPA supremo Sonia Gandhi has visited Assam to pay a visit to the violence hit areas in the state. She had reassuringly said that the refugees need to be a little patient in their wait to get back to home as the situation had already started subsiding.

"Naturally all refugees want to go back home, but this will take some more time till the situation is a little calmer," she said.  She had visited the Titaguri relief camp along with Sushil Kumar Shinde theUnion home minister and also the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi.

The chief minister would make amends soon after the ethnic races have have been placated, she said. She also said that the rations were being supplied on time and that medical aid was also being provided. So far only two children had been unwell.

She asked the refugees if they needed any additional support or if they had been facing any problems but the refugees had not reported any complaints.

The Assam violence had claimed over 77 lives in the state apart from rendering several thousands homeless and several lakhs displaced.

Sonia Gandhi had reached the strife torn zone in a Helicopter from Guwahati. Congress chief in Assam  Bhubaneswar Kalita and the Territorial Concil chief of Bodoland, Hagrama Mohilary were also present along with her.

After visiting two other camps in the violence hit areas, Shinde and Gandhi would talk to the Chief Minister to discuss further course of action in the state.
