Mars rover Curiosity lands on the surface

On 5:30 GMT, Curiosity the Mars science rover had landed on the surface of Mars to embark on a 2 year mission to seek evidences of life on the Planet that could have survived a while ago.

At the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the persons controlling the mission near Los Angeles had confirmed that they had received the signals from a Martian orbiter confirming its landing on the surface. The landing was considered as one of the most anticipated landings as it was a make-or-break descent into a crater. NASA has said that this was the most complex landing ever in any robotic space flight.


The Mars Science Laboratory now names the Curiosity project has cost the NASA over $2.5 billion and it also marks the first astrobiology mission of the organization after the Viking probes in 1970s. The successful landing was greeted by a clamorous applause and happy tears of the triumphant engineers and scientists in charge of the project in NASA. This is a major victory since the NASA was besieged by a intimidating severance of funds.
