Mumbai potholes aid in the second delivery in the month

Can you ever think of a use for the pothole riddled roads in the city? As shocking as it may sound, potholes helped a woman who went into labor deliver her child during a bumpy ride. On the morning of Wednesday, Paru Ratan Charan, 22, went into labor and had to go by auto to the hospital in Swami Shanti Prakash Road.

The road near Netaji Chowk was in a dismal state with more pot holes than the patches of intact road. After passing over 5 large potholes, Paru couldn't hold the baby anylonger and gave birth within the auto. The driver who made all efforts to minimize the impact from potholes failed to do so. They then rushed to the Central Maternity home to get the umbilical cord cut.

Doctors at the maternity however said that the bumpy ride had helped in building pressure on the womb thus helping her to deliver the baby easily. It saved her the extra energy needed for building the pressure. Both the mother and the child were healthy and stable.

This was not the first time such an incident was registered though. 2 other similar experiences happened one in October of 2011, when Rekha Chaudari had delivered while in Subhash Tekdi Road and another delivery by Sangita Salve was recoded in June 2012.
