Police couldnt arrest man who duped NRI woman but court orders to surrender immediatelyGhaziabad court on Monday summarily rejected an application for more time to surrender moved by a businessman who has been booked by police for allegedly abandoning his NRI wife. The CBI court rejected the application of Pulkit Bharti, 23, after his lawyer sought more time to surrender. The court refused to grant him time.

The case revolves around an Indian man who lured a woman from Muskat into marriage over the internet. The woman, against her parents will, came to India to live with her lover, Pulkit Bharti son of a steel trader. He is the owner of a professional studies college at Ghaziabad. Pulkit gave her a job in the college, and married her on Aug 16. He then kept her in a hotel Krishna Sagar for 20 days. On Sep 9, when she insisted on visiting his house, Pulkit told her to wait at the hotel while he went out to convince his parents to accept her as his wife. However, he never returned.

She went to his residence where she had to wait outside the main gate of their residence at RDC-23. The entire family had deserted the house. The maid did not allow her to come inside but reluctantly gave her a glass of water through the closed gate on her request.

The next day she approached the Kavi Nagar police station. The mobile number of the man was found switched off when police sub inspector Deepak Shukla tried to call him while his father, who was contacted on the phone, promised to come to the police station to resolve the issue, but he too has not shown up so far. The police also have not located the place from where he spoke, the woman said.

The police on September 16 informed that they could not arrest him as he had already moved court to surrender. Legal experts were not convinced with the explanation given by Ghaziabad police it could not arrest a businessman as he had already moved court to surrender.

The police registered a criminal case against the culprit under penal provisions for rape and demanding dowry. The woman is keen for the issue to be settled through the police's initiative, but has to wait till the police arrest him.
