Papua New Guinea rocked by earthquake

PapuQuakeAn earthquake of a magnitude of 6.3 shook the South Pacific island nation of Papua New Guinea on Tuesday. There are no immediate reports of loss of life or property.

The epicenter of the quake was traced to 160 km east of the city Kandrian on the island of New Britain at a depth of 9 km. The authorities however didn’t issue any tsunami alert.

Earthquakes are a regular phenomenon in the island of Papua New Guinea as it lies on the “Ring of Fire”, a recognized zone of earthquakes and volcanoes stretching around the Pacific Rim. Most of the earthquakes are generally reported from this region.
