Maldivian Navy arrests 11 Indian fishermen

Maldivian Navy had taken into custody 11 Indian fishermen who have unknowingly trespassed into their waters off the Kerala coast four days ago.

Reports said the fishermen, all from Kanyakumari district, had allegedly crossed the Indian Maritime Border and entered the Maldivian waters, according to officials in Chennai.

The fishermen had ventured into the sea some ten days ago and were supposed to reach the Kerala coast back on Feb 26. Revenue officials said the Indian Government will take up the matter with the Maldivian Government to get the fishermen released. (J)
