Brett Lee retires from International Cricket

On Friday, Australian pace bowler, Brett Lee officially declared his retirement from International Cricket after 13 unforgettable years in the International Cricket. He said that he was no longer capable of enduring the physical and mental stresses of touring.

On his twitter, prior to the official news conference, he said “ It's official, I have retired from international cricket. Thanks for all your love and support. It's been an amazing 13 years”.

The 35 year old speed demon, who recently came back home from England tour unexpectedly due to calf injuries, said it was the right time to take the tugh decision to end his international career.

"I woke up this morning and knew I had to call it quits today. Friday the 13th, 13 years (since his Test debut), I thought it was pretty appropriate," he said speaking to Channel Nine.

He also said he had plans to attempt and play the Twenty20 World Cup, which is to be held in Sri Lanka this September but later thought better of it considering himself to be challenged physically and mentally for the games.

He also said he was happy making the decision. He added that as much as the pleasure he could take in the game, he also started to feel homesick with the long tours away from home. He wanted to have a different phase of life.

After a fantastic career, where every moment is worthy of being cherished, he said it was time for the second innings of his real life.

He said that his holiday would be at home since he was feeling homesick. "I just want to maybe do some fishing and just chill out for a few months," he said.

Lee, at one time the fastest bowler in the world and also the most feared, retired from Test Cricket in Febuary 2010, but continued his career in T20 and one-days.

One of Australia's most fearsome fast bowlers, Lee retired from Tests with 310 wickets in February 2010, although he played on in one-day and Twenty20 cricket.

Lee's stats stand at 380 wickets in 220 ODIs and 28 wickets in 25 T20 internationals.
