Scientists pronounce Comet ISON dead

Comet Ison has been pronounced dead on Tuesday at a scientific conference. The comet was not able to withstand the the sun's powerful gravity and was also affected by solar radiation.

On Nov 28, Ison, which was hailed as comet of the century, passed within a distance of one million kilometres of the sun, however it was not able to survive the close brush with the sun, according to reports. Karl Battams, astronomer at Naval Research Lab, who was heading the team observing Ison, said that the 800m wide comet was pulled by the sun's powerful gravity and hit by its solar radiation.
