Android Smartphones reach 100 million mark

Canalys report on Thursday has revealed that the Andriod market has reached the 100 million mark for the first time surpassing all other smarphone sales in the global shipments.

According to the report there were over 158.3 million smartphone shipments that were made globally in the second quarter of 2012 and Android claimed an astoundingly large share of over 107.8 million shipments. The Google owned operating system, acording to the stats is among every 2 of three shipments made. 68.1% of the all smartphones sold in the second quarter have the Android OS.

iOS has been in the second place with a paltry 26 million shipments which is 16.4% of the market only. They were followed by BlackBerry OS with 8.5 million, Symbian and Windows with 6.4 million and 5.1 million shipments.

There was a 110% of growth in the number of the Android phones and a 47% growth in the phones compared year-on-year. This was majorly due to Samsung's smartphones with over 45 million shipments of Android based smartphones ranging from the flagship Galaxy S III to the economically priced Samsung Galaxy Mini or Galaxy Y.

Samsung stood numero uno in the sales listed companywise followed by Apple and Nokia. HTC's improving sales had taken it to the 4th position just barely ahead of RIM (BlackBerry's maker)
