Coronavirus double and triple mutants are the same: Study:- The coronavirus created a shallow across the globe and the second, third variants made space after a vaccination for the deadly virus is discovered. The people are in left in panic with the ongoing speculations about the double and triple mutants of coronavirus. Keeping an end to the speculations, National Institute of Biomedical Genomics Director Soumitra Das said that the double and the triple mutants detected are the same and the available vaccines are effective on the virus. Soumitra Das spoke at a webinar on 'Genome Sequencing of SARS-CoV-19'. He said that the double and triple mutants are colloquial and they refer to the same: B.1.617 variant of the coronavirus. He called them overlapping terms and are used differently in various contexts.

The National Institute of Biomedical Genomics is one among the ten laboratories of the country which is involved in the genome sequencing of the coronavirus. The National Institute of Biomedical Genomics is under the Department of Biotechnology. The two mutations  E484Q and L452R are important for antibody based neutralization. These mutations allow the virus to enter the cell. They are just overlapping and are the same, told Soumitra Das. He said that the variants found in the country are not escaping the vaccinated sera. Soumitra Das clarified that the vaccinations available are effective for sure. Soumitra Das asked the World Health Organization (WHO) to recommend a uniform nomenclature of the variants.
