Jagan Odarpu in Tadepalli, Mangalagiri, Duggirala mandals October 20, 2011 17:00

YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy interacted with turmeric farmers at Gudimeda village of Tadepalli mandal on the fourth day of Odarpu Yatra on Wednesday. Responding to the woes of farmers, he said the government should take urgent steps to alleviate their plight in view of the serious impact of adverse weather and power cuts. A large number of YSR Congress activists and people came to see Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, who reiterated that his family became the target of a false propaganda by the Congress and the TDP which were obviously bent on deriving political mileage from their actions. He covered Pathuru, Ippatam, Vaddeswaram, Nutakki, Chirravuru, and some other villages in Tadepalli, Mangalagiri, Duggirala mandals.

At Vijayawada, in the late hours of Friday the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President, Botsa Satyanarayana, made an emotional speech after the inauguration of Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy statue near the police control room. He said hierarchy is possible only in monarchy and not in a democratic government referring to the threatening strategies of Jagan to topple the peoples elected party. Prior to the speech supporters of YSR congress destroyed chairs and created commotion at the public meeting raising slogans ‘YSR Johar’. He quoted that even Rahul was denied the post of Prime Minister, inspite of the Gandhi family, contributing immensely for the development of the nation. He further praised the Praja Rajyam Leader Chiranjeevi on merging with Congress. He said the leader was confident that India would develop under the Congress rule. However, he made it clear the Congress would continue the welfare schemes launched by Dr Rajasekhar Reddy. MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, ministers K.P. Saradhi, Galla Aruna and others praised Dr Rajasekhar Reddy’s policies and vowed to continue the same. They said YSR had always dreamt of making Rahul Gandhi as the next prime of minister of the country. Later, the minister for housing, Kanna Lakshminarayana, on Friday said Jagan is the heir of YSR for properties and not for politics and the real heirs are Congress leaders.

The students of the Nagarjuna University, who have launched an agitation demanding proper food facilities in the hostels since last night, today locked the University gates and have resorted to a sit-in in front of the main gate. The students have alleged that the university has not been maintaining proper food facility and the food quality was also not up to the mark. Since last night, the students have been resting on the main road. They have demanded the VC must come and talk to them on their problems. “We have been demanding proper facilities for the last few days but no one is caring. If the VC doesn’t come and talk to us, the university management will have to face serious consequences,” said the students.

Floodwater damages crops, enters homes August 27, 2011 12:42

Water from the Kondaveetivagu stream inundated 40,000 acres of fields damaging chilli, cotton, paddy, jute and horticulture crops in Amaravathi, Tullur, Tadikonda and Mangala-giri mandals of Guntur division. Due to heavy rain in the last three days the Kondaveetivagu stream is in spate causing a breach at Krishnayapalem village of Mangalagiri mandal on Wednesday. In Amaravathi mandal, a tank breached at Yendrai village, leading to crop damage. Water entered fifty houses in S.C. Colony in the mandal and partially damaged another 25 houses. The joint director of agriculture, Mr E.Sridhar, said, “If flood water recedes in the next one or two days, there will no crop loss. Meanwhile a trough of low pressure extending from Vidharbha region to Tamil Nadu via Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to bring more rains to the coastal AP, Telangana and Rayalaseema regions, said the director of Cyclone Warning Centre, Mr V.L. Prasada Rao. He said an upper air cyclonic circulation also lay over the same area and under its influence, rain or thundershowers may occur in several parts of the state in the next 24 hours. Both the systems have been keeping the Southwest monsoon active over the state, he said. There is no deficit of rainfall in any part of the state.

Court permits CBI to raid Jagan interests August 17, 2011 18:40

In tune with the mind of the state high court, the Nampally criminal Court today permitted the CBI to conduct raids and searches on the properties, houses and offices of the YSR congress party president YS Jaganmohan reddy. Earlier, the CBI officials, who have registered an FIR against Jagan for probing his alleged illegal wealth on the orders of the High Court, today submitted an application to the Nampally criminal court seeking permission to raid the offices and houses of Jagan and conduct searches with regard to his properties. The CBI teams, which had arrived from Visakhapatnam, Bangalore and Chennai, are now expected to launch the raids and searches on Jagan properties any moment. Meanwhile, Jagan in his petition to the Supreme Court, had sought a stay on the orders of the High Court and requested it not to allow freezing of his assets and bank accounts by the CBI. It is however not yet clear when his petition will be taken up for consideration by the Apex court.

Surveys project landslide victory for YSR cong August 13, 2011 15:10

A latest India Today -Nielsen Survey has established that YSR Congress party, led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy, son of the late chief minister YSR, would get 31 percent of the total votes if elections are to be held to the AP Assembly now. The survey shows that the ruling congress party and the opposition TDP would get 27 and 20 percentage of votes respectively. The survey thus says that majority of the seats would go to the YSR Congress and the Congress would go to the second place while the TDP would be totally relegated to the third place. The survey says that the main electoral fight in AP would be between the YSR Congress and the Congress party. The survey details are published in the latest issue of India Today in the cover story of the Mood of the Nation. Survey by CNN-IBN and CNBC-TV 18 A survey by the CNN-IBN and CNBC-TV 18, published in the Hindu daily today, has confirmed the trends. The survey says that the congress party has lost its charm across AP totally because of its vacillation on the Telangana issue. It establishes that the ruling party is trailing behind YSR congress in Seema Andhra area and the TRS party in Telangana area because of its follies on Telangana. The survey has projected that the congress would get 32 per cent of votes in Seema Andhra area as against 39 in 2009 and 18 per cent of votes in Telangana area as against 33 in 2009. Similarly, the survey has projected a drastic fall in the TDP share of votes by 9 per cent to 24 in Seema Andhra area and by 6 per cent to 15 in the Telangana area. The survey says that YSR Congress will get a vote share of 36 per cent in Seema Andhra and 7 per cent in Telangana area. The vote share of TRS has increased from 10 to 36, according to its projections.

After the Delhi police had arrested anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare and his team this morning in Delhi, extempore support was pouring in for his team from four corners of Andhra Pradesh apart from other places in the country. TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu abandoned an extended party meeting at NTR Bhavan midway after hearing the news of Anna Hazare’s arrest and decided to hold a protest rally on Tank Bund. Reports say that people conducted rallies and demonstrations in Guntur, Nizamabad, Kadapa and Vijayanagaram condemning the arrests. Raising anti-corruption slogans, members of the Bharat Swabhiman and Lok Satta demonstrated in Nizamabad and Vijayanagaram towns. While the JNTU students took out rally in Kadapa, Telugu Yuvatha members held a demonstration in Guntur.

Thousands of women devotees have flocked to the temple of Goddess Kanaka Durga on Indrakeeladri in Vijawada and sought the blessings of the Goddess. Women joined long queues even in the wee hours of Friday to have a glimpse of the Goddess Kanaka Durga appearing in the Avatara of Sravana Vara Lakshmi. Tens of hundreds of women devotees visited the Goddess Padmavathy temple at Tiruchanur near Tirupati and the temple of Lord Rama at Bhadrachalam where authorities conducted mass Vara Lakshmi Vratams with temple expenditure.

Manchu Vishnu unveils ‘AK 140’ August 11, 2011 15:40

Manchu Vishnu, Tollywood actor and son of yesteryears hero Mohan Babu, has recently unveiled a book called ‘AK 140’ written by Times of India journalist Prashant Bhat. Bhat, originally hailing from Mangalore, has become very close to Vishnu through social website Tweeter and he seemed to have selected the latter for unveiling his book. Bhat has collected all anti-Telangana tweets and made it into a book called ‘AK 140’. The book was unveiled in Bangalore recently and it has gained the distinction of being the first anti-Telangana book being published from outside of AP. Manchu Vishnu’s movie ‘Salim’ was not allowed to be screened in Telangana in the past as his father Mohan Babu opened opposed the demand for division of the state. Now, Manchu Vishnu can expect some sort of retaliation from the T groups for his releasing the book.

100 houses destroyed in Bejawada fire accident August 09, 2011 20:24

Nearly 100 thatched houses were totally destroyed and more than 150 families rendered shelter less in a fire accident that broke out in the Tarakarama Nagar area of Krishna Lanka in Vijayawada today. Members of the families whose houses caught fire walked out in fear leaving everything behind to the fire god and property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed in the fire. Fortunately, there was no loss of life in the fire that spread from a house located down at the Krishna river bank. Vijayawada East MLA Mr Yalamanchili Ravi, Municipal Commissioner Ravi Babu and Joint Collector Dr Gaurav Uppal visited the accident spot with the revenue staff and promised to help the victims financially. District Collector Mr Rizvi later told journalists that two rehabilitation centers were arranged to provide temporary shelters to the victims.

United AP meet in Hyderabad on August 30 August 09, 2011 13:12

For the first time, leaders of the students’ JAC for the Samaikhyandhra (united AP) are going to hold a meeting in Hyderabad. Mr. A. Kishore, convener of the Students’ JAC for United AP told media persons in Hyderabad today that the meeting would be held in the state capital on August 30. “The meeting would highlight the need to keep the state united,” he said. Mr Kishore requested the political JAC convener for United AP Mr Sailajanath and former minister Gade Venkatareddy to cooperate for conducting the meeting successfully. Criticizing the TRS leader KCR, he said T agitation was the result of his selfishness. “KCR spoiled the atmosphere in AP which was on the path of progress,” he said. Division meet attacked in Vijayawada August 08, 2011 15:17

Tension prevailed in Vijayawada for a while on Sunday when the student leaders of the Samaikhyandhra (united AP) JAC raided a meeting being conducted to discuss division of the state. Supported by the BJP leaders, some leaders of the Seema Andhra sought permission from police to conduct a meeting at Kandukuri Kalyanamantapam on the division the state but the Vijayawada police refused permission for such a meeting citing law and order problems. The organizers, however, secretly conducted a meeting at the freedom fighters’ association hall. Student leaders of the JAC for United AP came to know of the meeting and attacked it suddenly resulting in a clash between the two groups. Both groups fought with chairs and sticks resulting in injuries to some student leaders. The meeting was disrupted and Mr Sai Krishna, a student leader of JAC for United AP, was severely injured in the incident. Police arrested 15 persons for conducting the meeting without permission and four JAC students for attacking the meeting. Police also took into custody 9 BJP leaders who announced support to the division meeting.
