Boyapati Pallavi of Vijayawada stood first in the Engineering stream of the EAMCET while Mohammad Ghouse of Visakhapatnam and Janardhana Reddy of Guntur attainted second and third ranks respectively. Minister of Technical Education Mr M.Venkata Ramana released the EAMCET results in Hyderabad on Wednesday.In the Medicine stream, Hyderabad’s N.Rahul got the first rank while Ravinuthala Lalitha and Narapaneni Kiranmayi secured the second and third ranks respectively.2,80,396 students were selected in the Engineering section out of a total of 3,16,08 who wrote the  examination. Passport Office for Vijayawada June 05, 2010 14:57

The Vijayawada town will soon have a full fledged passport office. The present office at Vijayawada has only been working as a transit point which collects applications and sends them to the Hyderabad office for processing. To establish a full fledged passport office in the town, the Ministry of External Affairs has signed an MOU with the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) which has started the work.The representatives of the TCS and officials of the Central Government Friday came to Vijayawada, met the police commissioner and held discussions in locating a suitable place in the city. The representatives, accompanied by some prominent public figures, had examined some buildings but could not take an immediate decision. The passport office in Vijayawada will come up under the scheme of Public Private Participation (PPP).

Allow export of rice to other States: TDP May 07, 2011 14:46

The Telugu Desam Party's Krishna district unit has asked the State government and the Centre to immediately allow export of rice and paddy from the district to other States so that there was sufficient space created for purchase of paddy from farmers.The TDP district unit president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao sat on a dharna in front of the Food Corporation of India office, close to Old Bus stand in Governorpet here on Friday, demanding immediate shifting of stocks from the godowns by the FCI so that the millers could buy paddy.Police forcibly lifted the TDP leader from the FCI office and took him to his house in Gollapudi, on the city outskirts. The FCI officials said it was not in their purview to resolve the problem and that it was for the district Collector and State government to initiate action.Employees and officials of the FCI tried to pacify the TDP leader, saying it was a holiday for them for the next two days and something could be chalked out on Monday.Showing the orders of the Joint Collector of April 17, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said that the administration had announced opening of 21 purchase centres, but all of them were unable to buy paddy, forcing the farmers to resort to distress sale. Meanwhile, peeved at the Government inaction, the TDP district president said that farmer leaders of all parties from six districts would meet at Lorry Owners' Association premises in the city on Monday to discuss the future course of action.Those who came to give support to the TDP leader's agitation at the FCI office included farmer leader Chalasani Anjaneyulu, MLAs Dasari Balavardhan Rao, Tangirala Prabhakar, and Thathaiah.

Congress MP Mr Rayapati Sambasiva Rao said that he would abide by the decision of party high command on the Telangana issue. Speaking to the media persons in Guntur on Sunday, he said that party is not in a position to take any decision now on the demand for a separate state of Telangana. He said that High command has been concentrating on the ensuing elections in five states. The leaders of T-state are mounting pressure on the central government to take an immediate decision in favour of Telangana. Sambasiva Rao said that Mr Gulam Nabi Azad, in-charge of party affairs in AP, will conduct a meeting with the congress MPs of the two regions in the state on March 25 and 26 to sort out the differences.

47 people died due to viral fevers September 05, 2010 19:59

The medical and health department collected blood samples from 135 suspected dengue fever patients and sent them to the microbiology department in the Guntur Medical College for tests.After getting report the officials of the district medical and health department will confirm the dengue cases. It will take at least 10 days to get report. The number of persons suffering from viral fevers is increasing in the district day by day. According to official reports, till now 47 people died of due to viral fevers. Private hospitals are collecting thousands of rupees from the poor patients andas a precautionary measure, they are giving treatment for dengue fever.The district administration has taken steps to create awareness on viral and dengue fevers in the district. The revenue divisional officers are conducting divisional-level meetings in Guntur, Tenali and Narsaraopet divisions to create awareness to the sarpanches and ward members to improve sanitation in the villages. The district administration constituted a district-level task force to inspect the hospitals every day and made arrangements to get information from the private hospitals in the district to monitor the situation.The joint director of municipal administration, higher officials of the panchayat raj and the rural water supply department will review the steps taken by the departments concerned everyday. The district medical and health department has taken steps to conduct health camps in the villages to render medical services to the patients and requested the NGOs and blood donors to donate if any patient requires blood.The state government has released Rs 10 lakh to the district to purchase emergency medicines in the primary health centres. The district medical and health officer, Dr M. Gopinayak said, “We will collect blood samples three times within a span of 15 days from the patients suffering from suspected dengue fever. After conducting the Elisa test we will declare dengue fever.”He also said that during the last one month 1,550 fever cases were reported in various primary health centres in the district. Replying to a question, he said patients suffering various diseases will get fever. Till now no dengue death has been reported in the district. “At least 35,000 platelets are required for human body. If platelets are less than it, there is need to administer platelets to the patient,” he said.

The surplus water from the Gundlakamma project at Mallavaram village was released bringing cheers to the farmers thanks to very good southwest monsoon rains.The irrigation authorities lifted seven gates to let out into sea the entire inflow of 14,000 cusecs of water following heavy rains in the catchment areas.The level has risen to 22 ft in the wake of intermittent rains, Project Deputy Engineer Shyamprasad said.The authorities expected the water level to stabilise. The Rs. 453 crore project, one of the 26 fast-track projects taken up in the State government, has been completed in a record two years to impound 3.48 tmc ft of water and irrigate 80,000 acres, besides meeting the drinking water needs of 43 villages and also Ongole town.Traffic suspendedMeanwhile, the authorities suspended vehicular traffic from here to Chirala via Madiralapadu as Gundlakamma river flooded the low-level causeway there in the wake of heavy rains in the catchment areas in the last few days.People of the area have been demanding for long an over bridge. between Madiralapadu and Chedalawada to find a permanent solution to the problem of frequent flooding of the East Coast highway.

The common man and poor pilgrims are being neglected by the officials at Bhadrachalam. The temple authorities and the district administration have made arrangements to conduct Sri Rama Navami and Pushkara Pattabhishekam on April 12 and 13. But they are neglecting common pilgrims in providing lodging, drinking water and sanitation. All the officials and staff of the various government departments, police, revenue, endowments, I&B and other district officials and their subordinates have occupied the cottages and lodges in and around Bhadrachalam. In addition to them, more than 330 priests have also arrived for the week-along celebrations along with China Jeeyar Swami. They were allotted all the temple rooms. The remaining guest houses were allotted to donors and their relatives. In all, 15 to 20 lodges have been handed over to the police and revenue departments in the name of security. A large number of rooms in all the lodges have been occupied by the police officers from Khammam and Warangal districts who arrived for security duties. The remaining rooms have been occupied by the revenue and other concerned departments. Some other rooms were allotted for VVIPs, the people’s representatives and their aides. One or two lodges have been excluded for devotees, but the lodge owners hiked the room rents. For one day, they are charging Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 based on the demand. Common devotees are not in a position pay such a range of rents. The managements of these lodges have allegedly been supported by the temple authorities with political pressure. The district administration and temple authorities have failed to fulfill at least their earlier assurances. They said that 12 large temporary tents would be arranged in the town. But they have arranged only one on the roof of the Thanisha mandapam so far.

Francis Xavier and Loyola ELT Centre Director P. Ramanujam say that undergraduate students and postgraduate students of any stream are eligible to participate in the competition. However, a college should send not more than four students, and all the four may participate in both contests. Each student will have to pay Rs.50 towards registration fee, whether the participation is in one event or both. The names should be sent by the principals to N. Nirmala Mary, convenor, Poetry 2010, by August 23.They could contact the convenor on 94401-83465 for more details. The students participating in poetry reading contest could choose a poem of their choice and read it out aloud for not more than four minutes and not less than two minutes. This event will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. From 3 p.m. to 3.45 p.m., poetry writing competition will be held, in which the participants shall write an original poem of at least 14 lines on any one of the five to six themes to be announced then.
