Parents Attack Five Students in Prakasam District

In a shocking incident, parents barged into the school and attacked five senior Intermediate students.

According to the officials, the incident happened in Social Welfare Residential School for Boys in Giddalur of Prakasam district. On Sunday night, five Inter students ragged seven students from Class VIII, IX and X. Following which the parents of the victims reached the school on Tuesday morning. They demanded immediate action against the Intermediate students.

The principle Karlapudi Ruth Ramola of the school did not give the satisfactory response to the parents after which all the parents of the victims attacked the Inter students.

Later, the parents of the victims and the principal lodged complaints with the police.

Police, however, counselled all the parents and set them free. The principal said, “students fighting with each other is a common sight in all schools. But parents involving in the issue and thrashing senior Inter students had prompted me to lodge a complaint with police.”

Nowadays there have been many cases where students are ragged by their seniors. This leads to the victim getting depressed and committing suicide.

In June 2016 a Dalit girl was ragged in Karnataka. Around 5 students of Al Qamar College of Nursing in Kalaburagi, Karnataka was arrested.The victim, Aswathi (19) was forced to drink toilet cleaning solution by seniors on May 9. Like this, many incidents are there where victims are physically tortured.

Even famous Bollywood Actor Amitabh Bachchan was ragged during his college days. In a media appearance, he said,"Ragging has happened with me too. I passed out my college in the 60s, and at that time also, ragging was existent in colleges, sometimes worse... I really can't tell you guys what kind of ragging I have been through. Please don't ask me."

Ragging has harmed all type of connections either with seniors in school or college. Famous Indian universities have a past filled cases on ragging particularly Medical Colleges. Ragging is presently characterised as a demonstration that damages or is seen to disregard an individual self-respect. Following the increase of ragging, Supreme Court ordered a National Anti-Ragging Helpline.
