Women Ends Her Life At Erragadda Mental Hospital

In a shocking incident, 24 year old women committed suicide in Institute of Mental Health at Erragadda on Monday. The women hung herself to the window grills in her ward. She was admitted in IMH by the Kurvachedu police under Section 23 of the Mental Health Act on December 31, 2015. The women hailed from Prakasam District.

The S.R. Nagar police said“She used to have sudden bouts of mental illness. Since she had suicidal tendencies, the IMH staff members kept close surveillance on her.Somehow, the woman managed to secure a rope of three to four feet long and used it to hang herself. ”

A case under Section 176 (death of a person while being in police custody) of Criminal Procedure Code was registered.

An inquiry into the circumstances that drove the woman to end her life would be conducted by Mandal Revenue Officer.
