Bharat Ratna for Vajpayee, Netaji ?

The Union government is considering to honour former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee and freedom fighter Netaji Subash Chandra Bose with highest civilian award 'Bharat Ratna.' This news was brought to the light by the Home Ministry placing an order for five Bharat Ratna medallions from the Reserve Bank of India mint. However an Home Ministry official said, “ordering five medallions doesn’t mean that five persons will be bestowed Bharat Ratna.”

BJP has demanded 'Bharat Ratna' for Vajpayee when they were sitting in the opposition and coming into power, they got down into action. However, Subash Chandra Bose family is against 'Bharat Ratna' to film and instead they are demanding to reveal the mystery of his disappearance. Subash Chandra Bose grandnephew Sugato Bose said, “I hope they are baseless speculations and if at all the government wants to grant 'Bharat Ratna', first it should declare what happened to him and where did he disappear ?”

Congress refused to comment on Bharat Ratna to Vajpayee but said that Subhash Chandra Bose should be given the award and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands named after Netaji as he had brought freedom to the islands. Spokesperson Rashid Alvi said the government should take this decision only after the Assembly elections four states and it would be a good decision, if Bhagat Singh is also added to the list. BSP welcomed the decision and also demanded for 'Bharat Ratna' to Kanshi Ram.
