Rape victim seeks justice that is denied

A minor girl who was raped by her relative has been looking for justice as her parents provide a pillar of support. The family hailing from a very poor background living in Hyderabad had been searching for justice that had been eluding them since eight years.

The girl now sixteen years of age had been raped by a relative while staying at an aunt's house and since then the family had been running after pillars and posts for want of Justice.

In spite of hailing from a financially weak condition the family had denied 'settlements' from the accused and were fighting for a rightful cause.

The father of the girl is a blind singer and sings at religious gathering. On one such occasions, he had to leave his children (a son and a daughter) at an aunt's place as he needed his wife to accompany him.

Taking advantage of the situation a relative who often visits the aunt's house raped the eight year old girl. It was worst when the girl tried to convey this to her aunt. The lady had burnt the victim using a red hot iron rod and threatened her not to talk about the incident to any one.

The frightened girl was not her usual self after the parents were back. On inquiring the mother came to know of the mishap, which she conveyed it to the father.

The family then launched a complaint against the relative. The aunt along with the accused tried to propose a financial settlements and went to the extent of a possible social boycott of the family. However the unyielding parents  continued with their legal tussle.

The innocent girl spent hours of solitude, since then as she was not welcomed by the neighbors or at school, as they claimed that she had 'bad character.'

In 2009, A Maharashtra court had ruled in their favour, however reversed the decision after the accused made an appeal that the  father had accused a relative of rape to extract a petty amount in the range of Rs. 1200.

Contesting the statement, the case had moved to Delhi with the service rendered by Sourabh, a Software Engineer. He came to their aid after seeing a report in NDTV and took the case to Human Rights Law Network, who provide legal help to such victims free of cost in the nation's capital.

They have now filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the victim's parents. Their claim is simple and honest. How can father lie for Rs 1200 on the chastity of his daughter.?

The proof is that in spite of their pathetic condition were pursuing justice since the last eight years, imagine the amounts spent since the beginning. (Wishesh AarKay)
