The Supreme Court of India today questioned whether encounters are for personal vengeance or are they really Maoists. The apex court, was hearing the arguments over promotions to security personnel taking part in encounter operations.  The petition questioned the logics behind the promotions. The court had a detailed insight in to the various encounter operations across the state questioned the authorities over the facts of the said operations.

Observing the various modalities of the encounter operations in the state, the apex court today came down heavily on the security personnel over the discrepancies. The court also questioned that the branding of the slain persons as Maoists is a little dubious. The arguments on the case have been posted to two weeks later. (With inputs from internet- AW AarKay)
