Spacious GHMC HQ still a dream

ghmcThe proposed construction of a spacious GHMC head office at lower tank bund behind Indira Park has had its share of problem right from day one.  The proposal, made 2 years ago, was yet to take off, due to frequent hurdles.

In fact the then Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy had laid the foundation stone for the project at Kavadiguda Garbage Transfer Station in 2009.
Initially lack of funds was the reason, as the project was estimated to cost Rs. 50 Cr.

The design of the proposed project was to be done by the consultants Premnath Associates, Mumbai.

The firm initially had designed a layout, which was rejected by the town planning department, due to incompliance with the building by-laws. The consultants revised plans were kept aside, as the soil tests had to be carried out on the site.

The consultants had suggested two alternatives. The first one was designed as 12 floors complex with a height of 40 metres. The second design was of height 45 metres. The buildup area would be about 1.5 – 1.8 lakh sft.

GHMC is waiting to decide once the health wing shifts the garbage transfer station, which is hoped to take another few of months.

Hence the GHMC will have to wait further to start on their dream project.
