External Affairs Tough Stand On Devyani's Case

The External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid took a tough stand on the issue of Indian Diplomat in US Devyani Khobragade.

He asked US Government not to pursue the case on Devyani. Khurshid demanded immediate withdrawal of the case against her.  Seeking for the details from the US of what has happened in the case of Devyani, Salman Khurshid said that the relationship between the two countries is an important one as it has a lot of investment which is not reversible. He said that it has to be handled sensibly.

In spite of the heightened protests from India the US Government has not said anything to console the agitating Indians for the way a diplomat from India was treated. Only US Secretary of the State John Kerry called Indian National Security Advisor Shiv Shanker Menon to express his regrets.

Both John Kerry and US Attornye Preet Bharara of Manhattan admitted that strip search was conducted by the Marshals on Devyani.  Preet bharara says that it is general practice whether a defendant is rich or poor and American citizen or not. They also say that the relation between India and US should not be hurt by the incident.

Salman Khurshid is going to have a talk with the John Kerry in the evening today to get total clarification on the case.
