India tightens norms for diplomats

With US not responding properly and keen in moving forward over diplomat Devyani Khobragade fraud visa case, the government of India has tightened certain norms to US diplomats in the country. India has asked the US Embassy to stop all the commercial activities on its premises by January 16. In addition to this India had asked the American Center here to obtain a licence by January 20 or cease screening films.

The US Embassy has been asked to provide tax returns to the Indian authorities for commercial activities under American Community Support Association (ACSA) facilities which include restaurant/bar, video club, bowling alley, sports field, beauty parlor and gym. Also now all US embassy and diplomatic cars will also be subjected to local traffic regulations.

India-US relations have been severely affected ever since Devyani arrest in New York last month for alleged visa fraud and subjected to a humiliating strip search. India sought for an unconditional apology and US is no mood to do. Will these retaliatory measures wake up US government or not, we have to see.
