Assam "washed out"!

In yet another case of "monsoon fury", more than 80 villages in Dhemaji, Chirang and Lakhimpur districts in Assam were washed out by torrential rains, hitting normal life hard and displacing over a lakh.

Even the heritage sanctuary of Kaziranga has been swamped by water, rendering the wild homeless and in mercy of nature. While a few have already perished under the strong tide, the remaining wild life have rescued to the highlands for shelter.

The Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been constantly flowing over the danger level. And lack of river embankments in the districts of Dhemaji, Jorhat and Tinsukia have further worsened the matter.

The local administration is fighting hard to control the situation and has restricted movement on the national highway. As many as 11 districts in Assam have been deluged by incessant rains.

With roads and bridges broken, rescue and rehabilitation might be a tough battle for the Assam government.
