Nepal plane crash claims 19 lives

Nineteen people are feared killed in a domestic flight that was flying in the shadows of the Mount Everest near Kathmandu in the early hours of the day. The double engine Sita airways  flight crashed and everyone on board were killed, say preliminary reports.  It is said that the flight just took off from the Kathmandu airport with tourists and was flying to Lukla town which was the gateway to Everest.

And immediately developed and snag and made a nose dive into the river on the outskirts of the city. There are four Nepalis among the dead, apart from the crew. 'The majority of the dead are foreigners from Western countries,' says Nepal Police spokesman Binod Singh.

The preliminary reports from the accident site confirmed that the flight crashed just a Kilometer from the take off runway. The said flight had taken a plunge into the Manohara river at around 6:30 am (0045 GMT).

The army has been pressed into emergency rescue operations to clear the debris. Owing to improper roads network in the country, most pilgrims and tourists opt for the 16 domestic airlines and 49 airports to reach remote areas. This is recorded as the sixth fatal air crash in the last 24 months and the government needs to take a serious look at the aviation industry or else this would affect the local tourism industry badly. The incident that had occurred just a day after the world tourism day is pathetic, felt observers. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
