Delhi to become the first kerosene free city tomorow

After the challenging task of converting over 3.56 lakh households to LPG by providing the LPG cylinders and a gas stove free of cost, Delhi is all set to become the first city in the nation to go Kerosene free.

Dikshit had announced the scheme in the budged speech that she recited after the government had announced that subsidised kerosene had not reached the intended BPL families and instead went to the black markets for illegal sale.

With the new scheme 3,56,395 families which are presently eligible for the subsidised kerosene would enjoy the benefits of an LPG cylinder, Regulator, ISI certified gas stove with two burners and a rubber tube free of cost.

She also said that the Secretariat  would provide the facility to 200 members tomorrow and the rest would be benefitted gradually.

Originally Dikshit had annouced a cahs benefit of Rs 2000 which would allow them to make the purchase, the Cabinet later advised that the equipment reach the families directly instead of the cash.

The scheme covers  all the families covered under BPL and Antyodaya Anna Yojna (AAY) but for those who live in Jhuggi Jhopri relocation colonies.

All the BPL and AAY families presently are provided 12.5 litres of Kerosene at a lowered price of Rs 14.83 per litre while the price is around Rs 27 to 30 in the market.

National Council of Applied Economic Research has revealed that almost half of the kerosene supplied through PDS in Delhi has reached the black market.
