A teenager was kidnapped by three men in Sitapur but was traced and rescued by the police. However, she was illegally detained by the police and raped by them along with a chowkidar from the village before being handed over to her family. The police have been ignoring the complaints since a month when the incident came into light.
Another similar incident was reported in the capital of UP, Lucknow last week when the media raised the issue and demanded the Lucknow police to take action. A few days after the media had shifted its focus, the Sitapur police have not looked into the matter again.
The 16 year old's father said that his daughter was kidnapped by the local youth Rajnesh and his friends on the 2nd of April 2012. A complaint was registered on the same day but no action was taken. It was only after the pressure from the senior officials that they acted on the issue and registered an FIR on 8th July.
However, the namesake FIR had not made any difference till the father threatened to immolate himself outside the police station. The police again with the directives from the senior officers began a probe for the untraceable girl and located her. She was recovered and the chowkidar had conveyed the message to the father.
He along with the chowkidar went to the village where the girl was located reportedly. After meeting her they headed back to the police station. The father was forced to get down the vehicle and reach the police station by himself on the way.
His daughter was not sent back home for another five days and his inquiries regarding the same were rejected with some lame reasons. The girl had told her father about the happenings of all the days she had spent at the hands of the accused, police SI and chowkidar.
Since then the father had been begging for justice but nothing had worked for him. The police have also violated the major rules that should be observed following the recovery of any minor. The girl was merely sent back home without medical examinations being performed on her.
