Flash floods in Russia, 134 feared killed

Southern parts of Russia woke up to a sudden shock flood torrents on Saturday, say sources. As per initial estimates nearly 134 people were claimed to be dead and several displaced. The gushing of brown water has hampered life in the Krasnodar city. Officials estimate that this is the worst flood disaster since almost a decade. President  Vladimir Putin made an aerial survey and held emergency meetings with the concerned authorities in Krymsk for working round the clock to attend on grievances of the affected public. Almost life has come to a standstill in these parts.

Several agitated public complained of lapses of the authority in coming to the aid of the people in the event of a sudden natural calamity. Television footage showed heavy flood water gushing along streets in the worst-hit town of Krymsk past blanket-covered bodies. Residents were caught unawares, say sources. The result was shattered pavements and uprooted traffic lights surrounded by flooded constructions.

Nearly 13,000 could be displaced, say rough estimates. "It was like a tsunami!" Putin commented as he was told about the flood by local officials, promising to rebuild the ruined properties.
