Tripoli – mostly in control

Tripoli mostly in controlThe National Transitional Council (NTC) is almost in control of Tripoli but there are still scattered incidents of firing between the Pro-Gaddafi (PG) forces and the NTC. After six months of uprising the rebels seemed to have control of Tripoli. There are still reports of fresh fighting, which had mostly been quiet overnight. A Libyan rebel official announces their administration is now working out of Tripoli, as fighting continues in the city. NTC is moving forward towards Sirte, the home town Col.Gaddafi, but there is fierce resistance from the PG forces.

At Tripoli residents are walking out but with a bit of caution. The roads were filled with rebels, and they looked pretty tired and were anxiously expecting the war fare to come to an end at the earliest. A student in Tripoli says that she went out on to the streets yesterday.  She said that there was a checkpoint every 25 metres but everyone was smiling and congratulating each other. It was like a dream finally come true.

The Gaddafi compound at Tripoli was captured and ransacked by the rebels, as per estimates nearly 15,000 to 25,000 shoulder-fired missiles were found in Col Gaddafi's weapons stores. Rebels also seized boxes of ammunition hidden underground by Gaddafi's forces in the al-Maser forest in southern TripoliIt may be noted, as per reports, that the prices of the missiles in the region have fallen, suggesting that some of Col Gaddafi's weapons may have already reached the market.
