Sri Lanka's New PM Thanks Narendra Modi:- Ranil Wickremesinghe took the oath as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka after the island nation is surrounded by a huge financial crisis. Mahinda Rajapakse was asked to resign and he is hiding in a naval base after protestors reached out to his official residence. Ranil Wickremesinghe took oath as the new Prime Minister last evening and he thanked India for its constant support during the crisis. Sri Lanka has been battling with the worst ever economic crisis since the country got independence. Ranil Wickremesinghe is 73 years old and he is named as the 26th Prime Minister of the country.

During a religious ceremony that was held after he took the oath, Ranil Wickremesinghe thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "India is committed more than 3 billion USD to Sri Lanka in the form of loans and credits this year" told Ranil Wickremesinghe. Indian revealed that it has been working with the new government and will continue its support. Ranil Wickremesinghe is a leader from United National Party and he will have a mammoth challenge ahead. He became the Prime Minister of the country for the sixth time. He was appointed as the PM for the first time in 1983 and he last served the nation in 2018. He is the only MP from his party and it is a big challenge to form his cabinet.
