Hyderabad: Infant Sold for 1 Lakh by Hospital Staff

In a shocking incident, a day-old male infant was sold to strangers with the help of Aditya Hospital staff of Boggulkunta, Hyderabad.

According to the police, the incident came to light when Renuka, a helper at the hospital was having a conversation with her colleague. They were talking about the sale of a baby while travelling in the bus on Monday. The conductor overheard their conversation and alerted the police.

Police arrested Renuka who confessed that a 17-year-old girl from BDL Bhanur village, Medak had delivered the child on Sunday afternoon. As she was unmarried, her parents did not accept the child. Renuka then suggested the girl to sell the child. She even added that she can arrange to sell the baby.

She took the child and gave it to her brother who was childless. The girl was paid Rs 40,000 as advance and balance Rs 60,000 was to be given by Tuesday.

Meerpet Inspector N. Ch. Rangaswamy said “we are verifying the facts. Renuka has been taken into custody. A case has been registered under section 81 of the Juvenile Justice JJ Act and the baby has been shifted to Niloufer hospital.”

Police sources said Renuka had also sold a baby for Rs 1 lakh to another couple recently. Andhra Pradesh Balala Hakkula Sangham demanded action against the hospital.
