Lee Kaun Yew - Singapore’s First Prime Minister Passed Away

Lee Kaun Yew, the first Prime Minister of Singapore and the founder of Modern Singapore has passed away today at the age of 91. He was the country’s longest serving Prime Minister till date after it’s split from Malaysia. He was responsible for the sleepy port city to emerge as a global trade and world class finance centre in the world. He has been suffering with severe pneumonia and has been admitted in Singapore General Hospital on February 5th. He has been struggling since then and he has passed away peacefully at the hospital at 3: 18 AM revealed the Prime Minister’s office.

After a long journey he has handed over the responsibility to younger generation in 1990. “In the end, my greatest satisfaction in life comes from the fact that I have spent years gathering support, mustering the will to make this place meritocratic, corruption-free and equal for all races - and that it will endure beyond me, as it has,” Lee said in his 2013 book One Man’s View of the World. His legacy included an efficient government with less corruption along with low tax rates which attracted foreign investments that helped Singapore rank top in the surveys.
