Apex court to pronounce verdict on Kasab's plea

The Supreme Court is going to give its verdict on the plea of Ajmal Kasab (the lone surviving terrorist in Mumbai terror attacks) challenging the Bombay High Court's judgment upholding his death sentence. Notably, the high court has upheld the death penalty-given by a Mumbai trial court on May 6, 2010-on February 21, 2011. In his plea, Kasab urged the court to make his death penalty be made into lifer. The court, which heard the arguments long back, has reserved the pronouncement of verdict to today.

It may be recalled that Kasab is one of the ten alleged terrorists who was caught by the Indian forces after the terrorists allegedly declared a war and opened fire at the civilians in Mumbai way back in November, 2008. The reports indicated that at least 166 persons including top cops lost their lives in massacre. While  counsel of Kasab told Supreme Court that there was a denial of right to council at the earliest stage and denial of right to protection against self-incrimination to his client, the counsel of Maharashtra Government told the court that the legal aid was provided to Kasab and stressed that Mumbai terror attacks were intended to wage war against the country and not just the government.

The apex court will, today, decided the fate of Kasab.
