 Seven Central Government officials to visit Assam

A team of Central Government officials, seven of them, have planned to visit Assam today on Tuesday. They would work on the relief and rehabilitation necessities that are required by the strife-torn regions of the state which were majorly affected by the violence that was experienced over the month. The team would stay in the state for three months while the inter-ministerial delegation would also help the state government in the rehabilitation.

The delegation had planned to visit Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Chirang and Baksa districts while trying to decide what steps the government should take to return normalcy.  Mr Shambhu Singh, the Joint Secretary (North-East) in the Home Ministry, Mr RK Srivastava, Joint Secretary (Disaster Management) and officers from the ministries of Health, Rural Development, Food, Department of Drinking Water and Planning Commission are the members of the team while Mr Singh would co-ordinate the actions of the delegation.

They would chalk out the plans to distribute the Rs 300 crores of money that was announced by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the survivors of the riot.

On Monday evening, the officials also met with R K Singh Union Home Secretary and Ajit Seth Cabinet Secretary.
