It may be recalled that his Indian citizenship was canceled on last Thursday following a report submitted by the SK Tandon Judicial Committee. As per the report, the TRS MLA from Vemulawada constituency, had obtained Indian citizenship by submitting fake documents. The committee also claimed that Chennamaneni continues to be a German citizen. A review petition in the High Court has been filed by Chennamaneni Ramesh, challenging the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The respondents in the petition are Ministry of Home Affairs, Telangana Home Secretary and Rajanna Siricilla District Collector. Chennamaneni obtained his Indian citizenship after returning from Germany as per Section 5(1) of The Citizenship Act. He also found fault with the Home Ministry and further stated that only in cases of anti-national activity, the Indian Citizenship can be canceled only in cases of anti-national activity.
