Japan continues to jolt under quakes

japanquakePlanet Earth’s fury continues to trouble the Japanese. Exactly a month after the northeastern parts of Japan were devastated by a powerful earthquake and tsunami on March 11, an earthquake of a magnitude of 7.1 rocked the country today swaying buildings in Tokyo.

Japan’s weather department issued a tsunami warning too but it canceled the warning later. The fresh quake rocked the Fukushima area once again sending shivers through the spines of the people.

The quake occurred shortly after the nation paid tributes by observing a minute’s silence to the 13,000 people killed in tsunami and earthquake last month.

The US Geological Survey said the quake took place at 5:16 pm (0816 GMT) at a depth of just 13 km and its epicenter was traced to 81 km south of Fukushima city, near the troubled nuclear plant. Two people were killed as a result of the earthquake on April 7 and cut electricity across a huge area of northern Japan.
